Domestic violence is a widespread issue in the United States. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking in their lifetime.
Domestic violence is not a one-time occurrence. It often involves a pattern of abusive behavior. The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) reported that on average, 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 12 million women and men over the course of a year.
Domestic violence can also have a significant impact on children. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, an estimated 15.5 million children in the United States are exposed to domestic violence each year, and these children are at increased risk for behavioral, emotional, and physical health problems.
Domestic violence can be deadly. According to the Violence Policy Center, in 2019, 2,417 women were killed by men in the United States, and 92% of these women knew their assailant. Intimate partner violence accounted for 15% of all violent crime in the United States in 2019.

On average, we serve over 300 people each year for a broad range of services. While our primary purpose is to provide residential shelter services and safety, we offer many services to individuals and families who do not require fleeing to a shelter setting, including assistance in filing protective orders, legal advocacy, referrals to community resources, and many other options.
